Hear Their Voices: Artist Talk with Kim McCoy

Hear Their Voices, a social activism assemblage by Kim McCoy, is a prayer for all victims of human trafficking. Undergarments hang locked in a cabinet box, a beautiful façade eerily lined with chicken wire and secured with a heavy, old padlock. The intimate individual pieces inside are hardened by an acrylic wash and sway wordlessly in the wind. Each is bound by its captor – some hung by black duct tape, some with electronic cords (online trafficking trade), others by fancy black necklaces (high net-worth traffickers), and finally some by paper chains of the stolen birth certificates and passports held by their captors to keep them in fearful servitude.

Join Slover Library in a virtual talk with local artist Kim McCoy, along with Katie Cooper and Bobby Hall from the Samaritan House in Virginia Beach, as they discuss the work and ways to support victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
